The book is well written for a sweet clean Christian romance. I did get the feeling sometimes that it was put through proof read on automatic and the word selected was not the word intended but I could overlook that.This book is dangerous. Women: if he is moody and morose, if his attitude changes from moment to moment and you are always unsure of where you stand with him, if he keeps you constantly tense and striving to please him without knowing how, not even knowing what you have done wrong or how to do right - THIS IS NOT ROMANCE. This is a deeply troubled sick man, a good conversation to clear the air and come to an understanding is NOT what is needed. This man needs serious help. If you get from this story that with enough love and prayer you can make it all right - you cannot. You are going to be hurt very badly in a relationship with him.
Women: if you are constantly crying, exhausted, striving to please everyone on earth and pushing yourself, keeping way too busy to stop and face your inner problems - GET HELP. Spending an hour praying and having an abusive man stop abusing you for a couple of days is not going to cure you. You need some serious therapy before you even consider joining your life with another person.
This book described two horribly broken people and if it gives anyone the idea that the resolution to these problems is as simple as a long talk and recommitting your life to God, it can destroy a life. Dark, brooding, moody works in a Gothic romance but not in reality and this book gives a false impression that can encourage a young woman, or maybe an older woman still seeking her Heathcliff, the idea that she can love him and pray him out of his moods. You cannot and he will destroy you.

Must first say, it's been along time since I have stayed up late, HAVING to finish a book. This was it. Her grasp of describing the spectrum in photographer was like looking into the soul of Marc. Though he was in a boring job, teaching. You knew this was a deep love of his. Then he mets Julia, a woman who intrigues him, yet puzzles him.
A woman of strength and steel, yet for her self, she is full of doubts. You will fill the pull of both Julia and Marc
as they struggle with who they want to become. And yes, they can have love, and fulfillment of their dreams.
Delightful book for all ages. Showing a person, to never give up on their dreams.

Great Story. Considering this is book 2, I am wondering about the story for book 1. I'm guessing, since the series is "Oregon In Love", it has more to do with setting than characters and since this was a pretty complete story. Nice, heartwarming, plot with a happy ending not totally expected. Definitely a fun read.
Julia Wilcox has come to Oregon to stay with her brother and his wife and hopefully recover from a car accident that left her in a coma for days. She still has excruciating headaches, dizziness, and nausea. She is drawn to her brother's friend, Marc Dorin, but she's afraid of failing at marriage again. She'd thought her love and support would be enough to save Kevin from this drug addiction, but just after the wedding, he was found dead from a drug overdose. She still wonders if she could have done something else to save him. What if Marc leaves her too?
Marc is attracted to Julia, but he keeps telling himself she's way out of his league. He's just a simple photographer, and her classy carriage and designer clothes don't fit. Despite his misgivings, he finds himself falling for the beauty. When she takes a consulting job at the college where he teaches photography, he never gets to see her. She's too tied up in her work, and he knows he's just not important to her. Will calling it quits be the best thing, or will he be breaking his heart for good?
I enjoyed this sweet romance. The writing didn't flow as smoothly in places as I'd have liked, but the story was good enough it didn't seem to matter. At one point it appeared Sara was home from the hospital with the baby, but then Julia went by the hospital to see them. The only grammatical error I found was "between she and Marc." I easily gave it a 4.5, which rounded up to a five.
Julia Wilcox's life is not exactly going as planned. The dreams of being a wife and mother were shattered when she lost her husband and her faith. Pouring herself into her work seems to give her some measure of happiness. Now she's being forced to take time off after a bad car accident. She's staying with Brian & Sara (her brother and sister-in-law whom we met in Restorations) at their B & B. Marc Dorin is a college photography teacher/freelance photographer/author who makes weekend getaways to the B & B and is good friends with Brian. Marc and Julia's first meeting is certainly, shall we say, interesting? Soon though, they find themselves very attracted to each other and perhaps heading toward love. Will Julia once again put her heart on the line only to have it broken? Will Marc discover there is much more to Julia then meets the eye? Will these two learn there are lights and shadows in any relationship?
Bonnie Blythe once again offers up another great romantic read! One that will carry you away to beautiful Buell Creek, Oregon. There you'll meet Julia and Marc who are really great characters. They are easy to get to know and sometimes very stubborn! One thing I really liked about Lights and Shadows was that Brian and Sara (from Restorations) were very much a part of the story. That really made it fun and for that reason I would encourage you to read Restorations first (though it isn't necessary for understanding the storyline). The author did a wonderful job of showing that genuine contentment and joy are found only in the Lord. That's a great message especially in today's world. If you're looking for a great romantic read with easy-to-like characters, set in a beautiful setting then I totally recommend Lights and Shadows. It's book 2 in the Oregon in Love series. (Restorations, Lights and Shadows, Milagro for Miranda). Great job Bonnie!
