I don’t really know how I feel about the serial aspect of this series. I don’t really like waiting, so of course I had to wait until all three parts were out before I could read them. This first part was so short and barely whet my appetite so I’m glad I could just jump right into part two immediately. I think if I had to wait, it might have altered my enjoyment of this first part.I wouldn’t say this is my favorite by Melody Grace. It didn’t suck me in the way her Beachwood Bay series did. And I didn’t really feel as connected to Annalise and Raphael as I still feel to the characters in her other series. I was intrigued by the story and by the world of dance, which I only know from TV and movies. Of course the setting was amazing. Rome is one of my bucket list destinations and I almost felt like I was there in some of her descriptions.
This is a really quick read, but I do recommend having parts two and three on hand, or at the very least Internet access so you can download them, when you read this. I do enjoy Melody Grace’s writing and I look forward to reading more by her soon.

First Position Dirty Dancing Book 1 edition by Melody Grace Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A Sexy Read! It makes you want to get up and shake your hips!
I Really enjoyed this book. It was fun, sweet, & sexy. And it had a tall Italian man, who can dance! What more could you ask for? But First Position delivers more than just a yummy street dancer. Annalise is a ballet performer in Italy for the next six weeks to prove to her mother, & teachers that shes good enough. And this is her last chance. But she never expected to start developing feelings for a man that makes her want to break the rules, to let go of the strict schedule, that's her life.
Raphael opens her eyes to passion and shows her just how much fun breaking her pattern can be. But Annalise is fearful. If she doesn't give dance her full focus, shell fail. And be sent back home to a mother who dosent think she has what it takes in the ballet world. But after years of the same thing. Shes itching to be a little wild.
I cant wait to see what happens next. The heat & chemistry between Raphael and Annalise is oh so scorching & sexy!
Annalista is a young ballet dancer, driven by her desire to fulfill the dreams of her mother (a former dancer). At nineteen, her career is pretty much over unless she can make a strong impression while in Italy for a special dance program. She is extremely driven -- her training, diet, and energy are all focused towards her goal until she sees a cute Italian guy dancing. The trope of the sheltered and driven girl willing to risk it all for her first shot at love could be compelling, but this happens so quickly it's hard to identify with.
Rafael is easier to understand, at least in the beginning. He seems to view Annalisa as an easy lay. After a single dance, he's spinning elaborate fantasies about her genitals and dragging her to an alley to have his way with her. But after a single afternoon gelato date, he's telling her how precious she is. Is it a line? Is this the way he really feels? And if so, why?
Risking dreams for love is one think. Risking dreams for cuteness is something else. That Annalisa couldn't tell the difference left me feeling like Rafael was acting more like a sexual predator than a dreamboat.
First Position is the first novella in the contemporary romance serial, Dirty Dancing. The main character Annalise is a ballerina, and is in Rome to try and finally break into the professional ballet scene. The program is intense and her mother is very much forcing the lifestyle on her. I liked the ballet parts, because I’ve always found it to be a passionate type of dance despite the rigid practice schedules and forms. She meets Rafael, a street dancer, and her inhibitions sort of fly out the window. I had some issue with their relationship because of how mindless she became as soon as she laid eyes on him, and how she immediately puts her position in the company in danger just for a bit of time spent with him. I totally get that he’s dreamy and moves like some sort of sex god, but some stuff made me roll my eyes because it wasn’t a good idea to begin with. That a long with the “I’m totally innocent, teach me everything” angle made some of this sort of cliche. However there was plenty of steam and I’m really curious to see how her time with the ballet company plays out, and I’m hoping to see some positive body image dialogue in the future. I definitely see the promise in this one.
Melody is obviously a fan of dancing. This story revolves around dancing specifically ballet. Melody must also have a fascination with virgins and innocent young girls because this is another story about a girl turning into a woman. Melody seems to focus on people who are ruled by parents because this story is about a mother who sets high expectations for her daughter. Melody likes to write short stories separating them into long series. 100 some odd pages does not warrant enough to pay the high dollar amounts to complete the series. A series should contain an ample size book with a great number of words. This was more like a prequel.
If you enjoy dancing and reading about a young girls first time experience with live in Rome then I say go for it.
Rome, dancing, virgin, and stranger are the elements of this story. Living someone else's dream and Living under someone else's expectations and demands are the premise behind the story.
A dancers routine and schedule regime are carefully calculated. A plan is in place and everything is choreographed. This is the life of Annalise.
